Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Major
Music majors receive a BA or BS in music by successfully completing the 67 credits required for the music Core Curriculum. The Core Curriculum provides students with a solid background in musictheory, aural skills, music history, and solo and ensemble performance skills, while allowing ample credits for exploration of other academic disciplines or more specialized areas within the Musicprogram. Students who want to pursue the BA in Music should plan on taking courses to fulfill the . For the BS degree, in addition to the core core curriculum, students should plan on taking courses that fulfill the .
Program Preparation
Students who display a talent in voice or instrument and have the drive and desire to develop their technical abilities are perfect candidates for the SOU Music Program.
Degree Roadmap
Music students working toward a BA/BS degree will be instructed in the foundations of musical theory and aural skills through a sequential track of coursework. Students will receive hands on experience in musical performance through comprehensive professional instruction and guidance.
Capstone
The Capstone project is designed collaboratively by the student and the student’s advisor and should integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and outcomes of the collective body of study the student has undertaken in his/her university experience. The project will be documented in a career-oriented final portfolio and submitted to the student’s advisor, and archived by the Music Office.
