Offered as a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business
The BAS degree prepares students for managerial careers in technical fields. Students will conduct a comprehensive analysis of individual and group behaviors in organizations, demonstrate a thorough understanding of the basic fundamentals of business, use critical thinking skills and practical knowledge to solve specific business management problems and apply career development strategies and progress into management-level positions.

This online degree is available as an Accounting or Management concentration.
A degree in Business develops you into an open-minded, responsible citizen with skills to carry you throughout your career. You can travel the world, start your own successful business, and inspire those around you. In this program, you will practice interpersonal skills, professional judgment, and time management in addition to mastering many tangible skills involving software programs, finance, marketing, and accounting.
Communication, BA/BS
Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Major
This online degree is available as a Communication Studies concentration.
The Communication Studies concentration focuses on the study of how human beings create meaning through the exchange of verbal, nonverbal and mediated messages. Students learn how to competently create and critically consume messages in both written and oral forms, and became adept at the skills and underlying theories of such topics as: intercultural interactions, small group communication, persuasion, public communication, race and gender, conflict resolution, and interviewing and listening.
Criminal Justice, BA/BS
Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
CCJ majors receive a BA or BS by successfully completing the 71 credits required for the CCJ major Core Curriculum. These requirements provide students with a solid background in all areas of the CCJ field, including law, policing, theory, and corrections. Students leave the program ready for the CJ field, graduate studies, or law school. The requirements also allow for opportunities to minor in other fields or to explore the many CCJ electives offered.
Early Childhood Development, BA/BS
Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Development
This Early Childhood Development (ECD) degree is designed for working adults who prefer the flexibility of an online program and have completed approximately two years of college coursework. Most lower division general education, early childhood education courses are not offered online through SOU and must be taken on campus or at local community colleges. SOU works with community colleges to identify appropriate lower division early childhood prerequisite and general education courses essential to the major.
Innovation and Leadership, BS
Offered as a Bachelor of Science Major
An Innovation and Leadership degree enables students to demonstrate an operating understanding of organizational leadership and culture including theories about individual and group behaviors. From this experience, they can apply innovative solutions to organizational systems using modern data analysis techniques, emerging media tools, creativity, and critical thinking skills.

The School of Business invites you to discover the flexibility and value of completing a business minor as part of your undergraduate degree program. Everyone needs to learn about business because business is everywhere. Students in non-Communication majors and disciplines can round out their intellectual and professional development by studying interpersonal, group, organizational and media communication in our Communication Studies minor.
Criminal Justice, Minor
Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
The Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJ) minor option is ideal for students who do not want to major in CCJ but are interested in the role and workings of criminal justice in our society. CCJ minor students have the opportunity to select much of their own coursework, which allows them to tailor their CCJ educational experience to fit their interests and career goals.
Early Childhood Education, Minor
Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
Early Childhood Development courses counting toward the minor are aligned with NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) Personal Preparation Standards listed below. In completing 24 credits for this minor, at least one course must be taken for each standard. Students must meet all applicable requirements listed in the Minors section of this catalog, including the Minor residence requirement.
Psychology, Minor
Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
The Psychology Minor is popular among students from diverse majors. Many students find a background in human behavior helpful for various career paths. Students do not need to declare a minor until their graduation application has been submitted.

The Master of Business Administration puts emphasis on the critical topics of leadership, teamwork, ethics, and effective communication. Business students working toward a Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting will be instructed in the foundations of Accounting. Students will be thoroughly prepared for business, including real-world experiences, an interactive class environment, and one-on-one comprehensive professional instruction and guidance. The certificate in accounting program has been developed for a variety of career objectives including the CPA, CMA, and government and industrial accounting.
Reading Intervention Endorsement
Offered as an Oregon Reading Intervention Endorsement
The Reading Endorsement is geared for licensed teachers seeking the endorsement without a master’s degree. Teachers will gain an understanding of the issues related to effective reading instruction and tools to improve student achievement. Courses will focus on issues related to reading instruction and assessment with research-validated strategies and tools to meet the needs of individual learners. A Preliminary or Professional teaching license is required prior to starting the 90-hour practicum.
