SOU’s International Programs welcomes students from around the world. Students who need an F-1 or J-1 visa to study in the U.S. should follow the guidelines here to apply for admission.
International Freshman Student Requirements
Freshman Undergraduate Applicants (under 1 year of university-level coursework):
- Complete the online international student application for admission.
- Submit official transcripts from your high school, including an English-language version. Depending on your country, documents are called transcripts, marks sheets, A-Levels, or a Secondary Leaving Certificate.
- Submit official transcripts for any completed university-level coursework.
- Send a copy of your high school diploma.
- Submit official English Proficiency exam results.
Grade Point Average (GPA) Minimum Criteria:
2.5 on a 4.0 scale
International Transfer Student Requirements
Transfer Undergraduate Applicants (at least 1 year of completed university-level coursework):
- Complete the online international student application for admission.
- Submit official transcripts from your prior universities, including an English-language version.
- Submit official English Proficiency exam results.
Grade Point Average (GPA) Minimum Criteria:
2.25 on a 4.0 scale
International Graduate or Second Bachelor’s Degree Requirements
Graduate Program Applicants:
- Complete two graduate student applications for admission: 1) Online international graduate student application. 2) Departmental graduate student application.
- Contact your graduate program coordinator about program admissions requirements.
- Submit official transcripts from your prior universities, including an English-language version.
- Send a copy of your university diploma.
- Submit official GRE exam results if required by your chosen graduate program.
- Submit official English Proficiency exam results.
Grade Point Average (GPA) Minimum Criteria:
3.0 on a 4.0 scale (in the last 90 quarter or 60 semester credits of undergraduate coursework)
Second Bachelor’s Degree (Post-baccalaureate) Applicants:
- Complete the online international student application for admission.
- Submit official transcripts from your prior universities, including an English-language version.
- Send a copy of your university diploma.
- Submit official English Proficiency exam results.

When making admission decisions, we consider the characteristics of the applicant’s national system of education and the level of study completed.
Transcripts and English Proficiency:
Transcripts and English proficiency results will not be accepted as faxes, scans, photocopies or already opened documents. Documents will not be returned after they are received by SOU.
Application and Admission Decision Timeline:
Applications are accepted throughout the year and we encourage students to apply as early as possible. Admission decisions are made approximately 2-3 weeks (10-14 business days) after the receipt of all required admission documents.
