The micro-credential in Data Analysis for social science prepares students to access, analyze, and display quantitative data. Students will gain practical, hands-on experience with data gathering, analysis, and visualization techniques commonly used in program evaluation, policy analysis and other applied social research. Students will be able to produce professional quality data summaries that are analytically sound and effective forms of communication.

Additional Requirements

Students must earn a minimum “C” grade in all courses that count toward this micro-credential. Prior to being awarded this credential, students are required to submit an artifact demonstrating their ability to access, analyze and display data professionally.

Learning Outcomes/Competencies

This micro-credential builds quantitative literacy, analytical thinking and effective communication skills. Students will be able to:

• Develop and refine empirical questions for social research
• Access and build data sets using SPSS and MS Excel
• Analyze data to answer research questions using descriptive and inferential statistics
• Describe and interpret data patterns using clear and concise prose
• Visualize data to highlight meaningful patterns
