Offered as an Academic Minor
Integrating both US and world history, the history minor gives students the opportunity to supplement their major with engaging and relevant coursework analyzing the stories of people worldwide. Consisting of 6 courses, the history minor complements many majors, by helping students hone their critical thinking, reading, writing and research skills. Minoring in history allows students to explore issues of diversity both within a national and global context, and engage intellectually with a variety of peoples, ideas, and values. The history department’s curriculum aims to cultivate globally engaged citizens.
Program Preparation
If you love history and want to cultivate your skills as a critical thinker, researcher, writer, and public speaker, as well as develop as an active participant in a democratic society, then a history minor is for you!
Degree Roadmap
History minors will complete 24 credits in history coursework. Selecting 2 courses from our four foundation courses and 4 upper division electives in topics that peak their interest.
Degree Integration
History minors are able to explore their interest in history while pursuing another major degree. The history minor can complement any SOU major as it focuses on cultivating students’ skills as critical thinkers, researchers, writers and public speakers; all of which are skills employers actively look for in future employees.
