Certificate in Emerging Media + Design
One eye on the studio, one eye on the world.
Offered as an Academic Certification
The Certificate in Emerging Media + Design prepares students with the skills to develop, produce, and evaluate original projects in digital media. Students engage in all stages of the production process and conduct critical investigations into people’s roles as participants in and products of technologically mediated culture. The overall requirement for the certificate is 28 credits.
This certificate is intended to give students majoring in other disciplines an understanding of the primary functions within the digital realm. A certificate in EMDA plays well with other majors such as Art, Communication, Creative Writing, Marketing, and Computer Science. Students going into the EMDA program do not need previous experience in digital media.
Design and develop innovative, real-world projects in a professional studio environment. EMDA students engage in interdisciplinary studio activity and research while learning a range of contemporary technical skills to create the future of digital media. Whether creating and coding your own virtual reality world, developing and fabricating a working 3D product prototype, designing a brand for a startup company, drawing and animating an online comic book, or producing an award-winning video, EMDA provides the tools to help you succeed.
With a certificate in EMDA, the Capstone is not required. However, EMDA’s resources helps provide a workshop environment for students to complete a serious piece of work, polish their portfolios, research contemporary best practices, explore opportunities after graduation, and formally present their work to others.
