Fenn was inspired to pursue <a href=\"\/academics\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English at SOU<\/a>. Although Hannah was not sure what she wanted to do after college, she knew she wanted to work in the arts. She now balances her talents of writing and passions for poetry in her everyday life. After 10 years of experience, she confidently states that she loves her freelance job because of its flexibility, the \u201cunsuspecting avenues\u201d and the \u201copportunities [that] can flow to you in ways you can\u2019t necessarily predict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hannah entered the freelance writing world from an internship with <em>The Ashland Daily Tidings<\/em> and <em>The Medford Mail Tribune<\/em> that she did her senior year of college alongside her late father, John Darling. Working under her father\u2019s wing was a great way to learn the trade. This early experience led her to the opportunity to write a column that covered performances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and soon other freelance writing work. She continued to write locally, as well as doing some online work for online and print publications in the Midwest. At first, publishing a whole book of poems felt daunting and Hannah hit many mental roadblocks along the way. Her technical writing courses provided her with great foundational skills that \u201cpaved the way for [her] career.\u201d Although not all writing positions require a bachelor&#8217;s degree, many do prefer it. Hannah thinks that it is \u201cwise to choose an English degree in college\u201d because \u201cthere will always be a need for copywriting and journalism.\u201d Even with the rise in use of AI, Hannah has \u201cnot encountered a shortage of writing work.\u201d Most of the publications she works for are \u201cpretty anti-AI.
