his Master\u2019s degree in Community Counseling from Northern Arizona University in 2000 and his PhD in Counseling from Oregon State University in 2017. Dr. Chang has been a practicing counselor since 2000 and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Board-approved clinical supervisor in Oregon. He has a range of clinical experience with children, adolescents, adults, and families. His clinical and research interests include suicide prevention, collegiate recovery, trauma treatment, social justice and EDI in the mental health professions, gatekeeping in counselor education programs and clinical supervision. Dr. Chang\u2019s mission as a counselor and an educator is to empower people to become their best selves. Dr. Chang maintains a small private practice in Ashland. He is active in the Western Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (WACES). She earned her Master of Science in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton in 2017 and is currently completing her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Northern Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Her professional background includes instructing undergraduate first-year seminars and running the Campus Connections mentorship program at the University of Northern Colorado. Clinically, Summer is a Licensed Professional Counselor and outdoor experiential therapist working in private practice, where she also provides supervision for counselors seeking to expand their scope into nature-based therapy modalities.<\/p>\n<p>Summer\u2019s clinical experience spans the age spectrum and emphasizes identity development and transition, grief and loss, and neurodivergence, alongside support for anxiety, depression, and life adjustments. Her research focuses on qualitative and experiential methods, with her dissertation exploring the lived experience of outdoor experiential therapy for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Additional research interests include the use of the Enneagram in clinical supervision, training for work with consensual non-monogamy and diverse relational structures, and the therapeutic impact of nature.<\/p>\n<p>She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES).<\/p>\n<p>Outside of her academic and clinical work, Summer enjoys gardening, hiking, art-making, and attending live music events.
