dig-4\">Wayne Hung (he\/him) is originally from Taiwan and joined SOU in 2024. He primarily teaches Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, and the General Chemistry sequence. Before that, he served as an assistant professor at Oregon Institute of Technology for one year and as a visiting assistant professor in the Biochemistry and Chemistry Department and Environmental Science program at Loyola Marymount University for one year.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne\u2019s research focuses on the intersection of environmental chemistry and microbiology, particularly the prevalence and fate of metal(loid)s and antibiotic resistance in the environment, and their effects on microbial ecology. He is also deeply committed to addressing issues of inclusivity and diversity in STEM education through pedagogy research.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of his academic work, Wayne enjoys hiking, watching sports, playing basketball and pickleball, working out, and traveling. He\u2019s excited to explore Southern Oregon and take full advantage of its national forests and parks to pursue his love for the outdoors. <a She started her education with a BS from Juniata College in Pennsylvania, before moving to the west coast for a PhD at the University of Oregon and a postdoc at UC Davis. Anna&#8217;s research relates the fields of inorganic synthesis, materials chemistry, geochemisty, and environmental chemistry by studying the speciation of metals in aqueous solution, specifically aluminum cluster complexes. Anna currently teaches General Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, as well as, serving as the Chemistry Club advisor. When Anna is not in the lab, she spends her time collecting rocks throughout the Southern Oregon countryside. <a Previously, she taught at Cornell College and the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Schepmann specializes in teaching organic chemistry and spectroscopy, biochemistry, and scientific communication. Her interactive course delivery method incorporates guided-inquiry and peer-led team-learning approaches, chemical animations and demonstrations, and historical discoveries with modern scientific applications. Professor Schepmann&#8217;s drug-discovery research focuses on the identification of bioactive natural products for pharmaceutical applications. In addition to her pedagogical and scholarship work, Dr. Schepmann co-founded SOU X-Factor, a group focused on advancing the careers of underrepresented faculty by advocating for supportive and equitable policies. This coalition&#8217;s accomplishments include spearheading the creation of SOU&#8217;s Faculty Ombuds Office, as well as implementing the University&#8217;s first Distinguished Faculty Teaching and Service Awards. In continual pursuit of career-life balance, Dr. Schepmann is passionate about promoting science in her community, volunteering with her church, and spending time with her family trying new ethnic Jon teaches upper-level biochemistry and other first and second-year chemistry courses and lab courses. He started his education with a BS from George Fox University in 2010 before completing his PhD at the University of Oregon in 2015 (advisors Dr. Victoria DeRose &amp; Dr. Mike Haley). He then completed postdoctoral research at Oregon Health &amp; Science University from 2015\u201317 (Dr. Kimberly Beatty) before starting his first teaching position at Willamette University for the 2017\u201318 academic year. He then taught at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, from 2018 until moving back to Oregon in 2025. Jon&#8217;s research focuses on platinum-based anticancer drugs and understanding their biological mechanisms of action.
